Bohemian
The bohemian design style, also known as boho, is characterized as free-spirited and organic. Boho design brings natural elements indoors with plants, wood, metals, and more. Another thing you’ll see with the boho style is mixed patterns, whether it’s with pillows, bedding, or wall art. Texture is also a big part of the bohemian style. Mixing those natural elements goes hand and hand with this idea. As far as color goes, earth tones are the way to go, in order to stick with the organic and natural bohemian style.
Minimalist
When you hear the phrase “minimalist,” you most likely think of the word “minimal.” That is exactly what the minimalist design style is – clean, simple, and bright. This means minimal art and minimal decor. Less is more when it comes to the minimalist style. The colors that are incorporated in this design style are light, neutral, and monochromatic. Whites, tans, and light grays are your friends. This style also incorporates natural elements, like wood and plants, but not to the extent of the bohemian style.
Traditional
Traditional design style is more luxurious than the last two design styles I have mentioned. When I think about this design style, I think of European style and the 18th and 19th centuries. The traditional style incorporates silk, linen, and velvet materials. High-hung curtains are also a great way to achieve this style. It also has neutral colors and pops of bold colors, as well as mixed patterns, like plaids and florals. The traditional design style integrates metals with luxurious chandeliers and lighting fixtures.
Farmhouse
The farmhouse design style is also organic and natural. It incorporates wood, such as barn doors, shiplap paneling, ceiling beams, and more. Farmhouse style also mixes neutral colors, simple patterns, and different textures. The main concept of farmhouse design is cozy, vintage, and earthy.
Industrial
The industrial design style is all about metals, sharp edges, and simple design. This style emphasizes exposed pipes, natural brick, and concrete. The industrial style is most seen in studios and apartment buildings, where most of the features are part of the structure. However, you can easily incorporate this style in your home with the right furniture, decor, and fixtures.
Mid-century Modern
The mid-century modern design style mirrors the style from the 20th century. Large shapes, mixed patterns and shapes, and textures are what the mid-century modern style is all about. Incorporating strong patterns and organic shapes is a big part of this design style. There are a wide range of colors you can use to achieve this style. You can’t go wrong with neutral tones or pops of color.
Maximalist
Maximalism is quite literally the opposite of minimalism. Rather than a simple monochromatic look, you’re going to want bold, bright colors. Mixing patterns, colors, and textures is the key to achieving this design style. The maximalist design style is fun and vibrant, and more unique and personable than any other design style.
Coastal
The coastal design style is most likely seen in beach houses, or houses on the coast. Beach houses typically mirror elements of the beach by bringing in shades of blue and tan. With the coastal style, you’ll find glass, rope, wood, shells, and other objects associated with the sea incorporated into the design.
Glam
The glam design style is one of the most luxurious and elegant design styles out there. It is full of extravagant lighting, luxurious fabrics, and high-end finishes. When it comes to color for the glam design style, light and airy is the way to go. You should use colors like white, gray, cream, and pastels. Materials that define the glam design style are marble, crystal, metals, silk, and most importantly, glitter.
Cottage
The cottage design style is characterized as a combination of French vintage, rustic, and chic. The key to this design style is creating a space that is cozy and charming. Mixing patterns, woods, colors, metals, and textures is key.
