How To Style Your Home For The Holidays

I don’t know about you, but as soon as Thanksgiving weekend is over, I am immediately ready for all things HOLIDAYS. If you’re like me, you are probably already bursting at the seams to pick out a tree, start decorating your home, and shopping for gifts. It’s the most wonderful time of the year! But before you deck the halls, take a look at my biggest tips for how to style your home for the holidays:

Pick Your Theme

When you are ready to start styling your home this holiday season, the first thing I want you to think about is your overall vision for your space. Whether you have boxes upon boxes of holiday decor to pull from, or you plan to source a majority of your decorations this year, having a general theme will help you be intentional and avoid decision paralysis as you go!

Some examples:

  • This bookshelf will be home to all of my Santa or snowmen. And the mantle will be dedicated to garland and stockings.
  • My primary color palette will be white, gold, and silver.
  • My theme is Winter Wonderland.

My theme this year is winter animals. I incorporated owls, deer, and bears, with some gold and silver sparkle.

Don’t forget to add those lights to make your Christmas wonderland feel warm and cozy. I am obsessed with fairy lights which can be intertwined with your wreath garland and centerpieces.

Once you decide on your overall thematic direction, you will probably feel even more creative within that! Whether you plan to DIY, shop, or make use of your well-loved belongings, every decoration you place in your home will work toward your holiday theme!

Choose Your Focal Point

If you are decorating on a strict timeline or a tight budget, I recommend selecting a single focal point where you will focus most of your attention and distribute the majority of your decor. Deck out the Christmas tree and let that be the conversation piece in your home this season! Or put effort into your entryway, since that will be the first thing your guests see when they arrive.

You don’t need to cover every surface in your home with decorations to really make an impact. It’s all about being thoughtful with your favorite pieces! If you need help deciding where the focal point should be in your home this season, contact Repurposed Interiors today. I can help!

Create Variation

Let’s say you’re putting Christmas trees on your mantle, or adding candles to your entryway table. For a sophisticated look, find pieces with varying heights, and avoid symmetry. Groups of three is a good rule of thumb! When you have variation, your Christmas decor will have that perfectly-imperfect look that gives warmth to your space.

DIY Decor Ideas

Some of my favorite, DIY ideas include:

  • Wreaths
  • Flower arrangements
  • Centerpieces
  • Table settings

Where To Shop

If DIY isn’t your thing, you can still have beautiful holiday decor with that hand-made look! Check out Decor Steals for all of your decorating needs. I have purchased several pieces from there, and I’m always happy with the look and the quality.

If you are on a budget or are just looking for a steal, I found a lot of great stuff at Big Lots. Especially for the outdoor lighting decor and simple little place mats and of course gift wrapping

Michaels craft store is also one of my go to for creating your own DIY projects. Get in on the sales on wreath pieces and foliage while you still can! You won’t be disappointed with their selection.

If you find any treasures for your holiday decor this year, send me a photo! I would love to see what you come up with.

Happy Holidays from Repurposed Interiors!
